What are the new rules on when children can sit/re-sit GCSE's?

Sorry, should know this, but my 15 yr old has a long-term medical condition and it looks like he will be missing some GCSE exams this and next week. He may be able to sit them at hospital as they are an exam centre, but he may not be well enough, and currently we are waiting for a bed, so he may even be admitted on the exam day if they don't hurry up and sort it out. He is taking a couple of GCSE's this year to spread the load and also because he's a bright kid, and will do the rest next year. He was ill when he took his mocks and taking strong medication which meant he felt very rough, and he's gone downhill since then. I heard the rules had changed so does this mean he has to wait another whole year before he can resit? And if so, what happens if he's ill again this time next year? Sorry but I assumed it would be the same as it was for his older brother and have just realised it might be a problem - education has not been the top of my agenda recently due to his medical issues. He is statemented for medical needs. TIA from a rather stressed mum.

English language and maths can be resat in November, everything else will have to be next June.

If he misses an exam due to illness next year, there is a procedure for giving an estimated exam result rather than him missing out for another year.

I think maths and English are only available for resits so he would have to have taken the exam this summer to resit in Nov.

Get hold of the school exams officer. He/she will know what to do for the best. exam boards, and schools, generally go out of their way to be fair to candidates with serious medical problems.

He can resit next summer, but needs to do at least 40% of the qualification then.

The school should not cash in this year if they think he can do better next year.
