We are looking at registering DS at the above schools. His first preference was for no girls, but that seem almost impossible. He is currently boarding and that is what he wants to continue to do. He loves rugby and cricket and various other sports, but is never going to be 1st team material. He is bright, but not top of the class. He really enjoys drama and performance and this seems to be the area in which he excels, but couldn't be bothered with a musical instrument. He is charming, but can be shy. We don't have any older sibling/cousins/good friends who have been at the schools recently and so any advice would be gratefully received.

There was a TV series about Harrow school not that long ago that followed students around, probably a good insight into the school. Looked like the drama and performing arts facilities and teaching was pretty amazing. Certainly has made me consider Harrow for the future.

Harrow is by far the best. It is incomparable to the others; contrary to popular belief Harrow is very academic and is very good in regards to drama, music and sport. It produces fantastic boys in my experience, confident and intelligent.

(1.) Harrow (Very competitive and by far the best; same league as eton and winchester)

(2.) Rugby

(3.) Shrewsbury

(4.) Marlborough

Look at shiplake college in Henley. Know it well and very good for those boys who are very sporty, maybe not natural Born leaders.

Sedburgh?

Only Harrow is single sex here so that one if he prefers no girls. What part of the country are you looking

icandothis64 · 26/12/2015 20:16

Shiplake is all boys until sixth form.

SisterViktorine · 26/12/2015 20:23

It depends how academic he is really. Harrow, as said by PP, is very academic. Shiplake is the other end of the spectrum and, whilst I think they have been pulling their sock up just recently, it was almost a school primarily for boys with mild SEN some years ago.

I would add Sherborne to your list if DS in not particularly academic, prefers all boys and likes his rugby.

You could look at Radley. Harrow would get my vote though.

Also Wellington college but weekly boarding.
