Could we have a family holiday in February half term, when DD is doing GCSEs?

DD1 is in year 10, so next year will be doing her GCSE exams.

We usually have a family holiday in February half term (skiing).

Will she be madly revising, or would we be able to go?

The thing is, with DD2 two years younger, and DS three years after her, I get the feeling we may not be able to fit in another family skiing holiday, well, ever, if February half term isn't doable.

It's worth having a quick chat with the school - my ds's school has intervention sessions in school over that half term and they have found they make a huge difference to students not reaching expectations - I don't know if that would be your dd or not but each school does things differently.

we had stuff over easter but NOT this half term : they have revision sessions till 5pm most days after all

We went away in Feb half term. DS1 is currently doing GCSEs and there's been plenty of time for revision. I can recommend Gran Canaria... Wink

Always did it and all three did extremely well and we still go every Feb half term! I am also a teacher.

Well, when I did my A-levels, a looooong time ago, my parents took me away over Christmas for 2 weeks - cottage in Devon - and I had an amazing time, did a couple of hours' revision every day and also had lots of fresh air and fun. Did me the world of good. As long as revision and study has been consistent, building in a break is just common sense.

I wouldn't have thought the snow would be that good in Gran Canaria, though, Ellen. Wink

Ah, skiing. Not my forte, TBH. Blush Though there was snow on Mount Teide across the water in Tenerife...

We are several years into the year-on-year high stakes exam run and haven't forfeited a week's ski-ing in February. I think the break is good for the DC who can get quite cooped up during the winter of exam years. However, we have put a stop to holidays at Easter and beyond bar a quick weekend away somewhere accessible.

my DS did his GCSEs this time last year, but he and most others didn't start until a week before the first exam. I didn't agree with it, but everyone got straight a*s (12 gcses and 2 early AS each) apart from two girls. Smile

turns out DD does have revision sessions over half term - one morning of Further maths.
She is currently watching crap American catch up TV : no work at ALL this weekend Grin

Hi, any ideas on a holiday in Feb/March with 6dd.
Would like some sunshine, low rise hotel, all inclusive please.

tumpymummy · 02/01/2018 01:23

DS doing GCSe exams this year and he has said he doesn't want to go away at Feb half term or Easter. I would have thought Feb half term would have been fine, but I feel it's important to go with what he feels comfortable with.

Stickerrocks · 02/01/2018 13:04

Current year 11 here. We're going away for a few days in February, but not at Easter. Her school will be running revision classes in all holidays, but DD is already doing plenty of extra classes after school already. I have banned her from the velodrome in April/May though, in case she breaks anything!

AnotherNewt · 02/01/2018 13:07

I'd say 'yes'.

It's pretty normal to see DC revising early evening in ski hotels in half term

This thread is from four years ago; the child in question is now 18 or 19.

bump6 you'd be better off starting a new thread.

tumpymummy · 03/01/2018 00:44

Oh yeah! Didn't notice that zombie thread!
