Moving to a new school during year 7

Has anyone moved their child to a new school during year 7. How did they cope, did they settle in ok and make new friends.

I don't want to have to move my daughter but if things don't improve then I will, a local school has a place for her and they said she can go whenever she likes.

My cousin's daughter got moved from their local failing comprehensive (where it was thought that she got in with the wrong crowd) into a more rural school that she had to bus too. This took place at the end of year 7. They said it was the best thing they could have done and she settled happily very quickly.

Thanks for replying Merle it's good to hear that your cousin's daughter settled in ok, I reallly think it may be the best thing for my DD.

I have been surprised by the number of moves during the early years of secondary school. DCs seem to settle down very well.

I would move her ASAP so that she has a chance to make some friends and be settled in before the summer holidays

I agree with Imperial. Children are very accommodating of each other at this age. She just needs to realise that it could take a few weeks to feel at home at her new school.

I moved DS in the June of Year 8 which in these parts is the first year of Secondary. Best thing I ever did. 2 years ago now and all is well.
