Independent or state?

If you are looking to buy a house, it would be nonsensical to not buy a house in the Dame Alice Owen's Catchment. It is IMO the best comprehensive in the land, with amazing academics and music facilities, and if you get in, there would be no point in going for the independent option. Only 22 places are offered, and this year the cut off was 526.65m, which is virtually 2/3 roads away, and there is a big premium to be paid on the houses in catchment.

To be honest i'm looking for a good school, so of course I would be very happy if she get in a school like Alice Owen or a Grammar but if she doesn't it is ok.. to go to a good state school. I know the places offered at Alice Owen are just 22 by catchment area or you get in by exams. How is the Mount Grace? Ofsted says requires improvement. What other school near Potters bar if it is not Alice Owen?
Thanks for your help! :-)

Chancellors school in Brookmans Park is also "requires improvement" but that was early 2013. The report also says the new leadership is making improvements. Over a year later, you could check how this has panned out. However you need to be aware that schools can yoyo between outstanding one minute and requiring improvement the next so long term planning for a year 3 child is not easy. Lots of pupils do have private education in this area precisely because they cannot get into Dame Alice Owens. It is a fairly wealthy area after all.

Not exactly Potters Bar but Bishop Hatfield girls school is good I think.
