It's really difficult without knowing him & his personality.

There are a few monologue books available but they can be overdone. If he finds one he likes in there perhaps he could search for another by the same author

There are two by Jean Marlow & one called The Methuen Book of Monologues for Young Actors

It's best if he sticks to his own playing age.

Any plays he's done that might have a suitable passage?

Pictures-Top tip to stick to playing his own age.Quite a few resources on-line but will check out the book too.
Atiao-I think he would like to do something different from the plays he has already been in to demonstrate what else he can do.

Thank you

Absolutely essential that he chooses a monologue from a play he can then read the whole of. The problem with monologue books is that they present the monologue with a bit of context but that's not enough - a decent performance can only be achieved if the actor understands the character.

Some suggestions:
We Lost Elijah by Ryan Craig - Malachi or Elijah
Arson About by Mark Wheeller - Stueey
Burying Your Brother in the Pavement by Jack Thorne - Tom

All of these are from plays for young people. The National Theatre Connections anthologies are good places to look

For a more mature piece (handle with care!) Festen by David Eldridge (Christian) is challenging but great if done well.

Avoid Shakespeare unless very very confident.

I saw an awesome audition using the presidents speech from independent day (the will smith film before he flys off to kill the aliens!!) a bit left field if everyone else is going for theatrical pieces?
