Why has my very informative and thought-provoking message been deleted? Seems to me that a few mums (PTA mums in particular no doubt) don't like hearing the truth. We need to face the facts the state education system is failing our children - admittedly, Gove the Great appears to be taking education in the right direction; however, I strongly believe in the abolition of coursework, BTEC qualifications, non-linear assessments, or anything vocational for that matter, and until that is done we are as a country, increasingly falling further behind our European and Asian counterparts. I say, it is about time we started to toughen up - by first removing this socialist/PC mentality of everyone being a winner; sadly, it seems that instead of rewarding Ileana for achieving A*'s across all of her exams, we are too busy rewarding Chardonnay for not throwing a brick out of a window. If you want my opinion I believe in increasing the rigor of exams and introducing higher grade boundaries - I mean a child can walk out of state education only answering 30% of the questions in a GCSE paper and still be gifted a C grade on a plate, which I find frankly quite ridiculous and embarrassing. To conclude, the need for a meritocratic and capitalistic ethos in our schools has never been so great which I think very few can disagree with (unless your a left wing, labour voting loony that is).

Claire, can I just say first that I can totally empathise with you - the feeling is mutual. But, are seriously expecting anyone from the Mumsnet militia to agree with you (especially considering that most users on here are either 'full time mums' a.k.a unemployed or ... PTA mums)! I seriously don't think that the likes of 'Tyler' or 'Robyn' will ever be able to appreciate or even understand the simply brilliant work ethic, that we middle class Britons are so proud of. So although you are doing your best to pervade your credible and traditionally British views, I think you are wasting your time on Mumsnet Posts message, closes computer and hides before the inevitable witch hunt begins

Well notnow2, I'm sure that's answered your question Hmm ... [seriously bites tongue at the rest of the nonsense spouted by KT whatever her name is Angry ..] and leaves thread. Sorry these right wing, conservative voting loons have taken over your thread notnow. Hope you get a normal person along to answer your question sensibly!
