Hi. My son is in Y12 at his Sixth Form that was his old school. He is taking the following subjects: English Language/Lit (Combined), Biology, Chemistry and Spanish. He has told me that he hates English as the teacher makes his life hell and basically makes sly remarks about him being dyslexic and that he only got a C at GCSE!! DS has told me that he does not want me to go into school but I am worried. He has said that he is going to drop English BUT he wants to pick up an extra AS..... What is best? I thought of a BTEC but I have no idea....

Wouldn't he be better just taking it as there is only a few weeks till the actual exam? He could drop it for following year and he doesn't have to take anything extra.

Unless he is likely to get a U, then I would agree. Take the exam and then drop the subject.

If he wants to drop one of the others as well, some universities do accept two AS in place of a third A level. What he could pick will probably be limited by the timetable, and your best bet is to choose a subject that will fit with what he wants to do next.

Definitely take it. He is almost about to do it. Then drop it and do biology, Chemistry and Spanish to A2 the year after.

Am confused why he wants to pick up another AS. Surely the 'usual' thing is to take 4 ASs and then drop one (after the exam in a few weeks) and continue with the other 3 to A2?
