I remember our GCSE one 2 years ago. It was a haven! I hesitate to start this as I'm not totally confident of wanting to post DDs results in the end, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
So, how's the revision going? What are the tricky subjects for anyone's DC?
DD is revising steadily, but then she always does and has had some disastrous module results, so not filled with massive confidence. Biology is her issue - she knows and understands it but can't seem to give the examiner what they are looking for. We've had papers back and her tutor says she hasn't answered anything incorrectly, just hasn't said precisely what the examiner wants. Seems so unfair.

I'm stressing. Anyone else?

Boys3, I see what you did there Smile

summerdip · 05/06/2014 13:36

The stress finally surfaced here yesterday - Ds was a bit forgetful and dazed and recognised "Today was a stressful day."

Gap year happening here - those Dc awaiting confirmation of uni places must feel even a bit more pressure.

Now it's here, I'm realising the impact on my DS and pray it all goes his way.

My students sit English on Friday - No Faustus or Paradise Lost in sight but are battling with the war literature. Wishing all students the best they can be including my DS here.

HPparent · 05/06/2014 20:05

Stress here too! DD was on track for an A* in English but is convinced she has blown it as she doesn't have enough critics views to put in her essays tomorrow. She is also worried she will forget all the quotes! Tears this evening.

At least it takes her mind off Chemistry Hmm

prettydaisies · 05/06/2014 20:39

DD finally starts tomorrow also with English. Likewise she has learnt quotes and read various critics' reviews. She's also hoping for A*. Her set texts are Paradise Lost, Tis Pity She's a Whore (wasn't keen on that one left lying around!) and King Lear. Her 12 year old sister knows the quotes quite well!

HPparent · 05/06/2014 20:46

Paradise lost, Volpone and Ant and Cleo here. There is not much stuff on Volpone and she claims the teacher didn't give them much in the way of critics views so she is sure she has blown it.

Petrasmumma · 05/06/2014 20:53

English too tomorrow: Gatsby, Carol Ann Duffy and metaphysical poets here. Sounds ghastly. Best of luck to all. :)

summerdip · 05/06/2014 20:54

A high A grade essay was given by board and it had one critics direct quote, one other mentioned and some comments on the modern readers interpretation - small part ( one strand out of 4 in one objective) of grade criteria. Not 'majorly' what they are looking for.

TELL THEM NOT TO WORRY

HPparent · 05/06/2014 21:01

Thank you summerdip!

boys3 · 05/06/2014 21:02

Bloody Chamber, Dr Faustus, Wuthering Heights tomorrow morning. DS1's strongest chance for the A* he needs for his firm choice. Best of luck to all.

FantaSea · 05/06/2014 22:49

Very best of luck for everyone taking the English tomorrow, hope it goes well for all of them Smile

Isthiscorrect · 06/06/2014 05:16

Philosophy here today. According to ds the slightly easier paper than last Tuesdays. And to those who know the English funnily enough I can spout serious amounts of Plato. Good luck everyone.

onadifferentplanet · 06/06/2014 07:15

The dreaded English here this morning. Ds is hovering on the B/C border (he needs a B). Got an email yesterday offering him an unexpected bursary for his firm choice so hopefully that will spur him on a little this morning. Ds is doing Lear, Paradise Lost and Tis Pity. will be so glad when this one's over.

boys3 · 06/06/2014 07:56

Bit of "Faustian Banter" at the breakfast table, I'm sure it made sense to DS1 Confused. He seems in quite good spirits, just hope not over confident. Still half way point reached once this morning's exam done.

friendface · 06/06/2014 08:56

Mind if I join? I feel that the worst is over for DS now having had two exams on Monday and then one Tuesday morning. If only I had found this thread before embarking on those few days! He's official half way though and the exams he has left are the ones he's most confident about so that's good.

Was anyone else's DC completely thrown by an AS resit? DS had a horrendous economics resit before half term which really put him in a tizz for the A2 :(. In hindsight though it may have been beneficial as it taught him to 'expect the unexpected' as it were with regards to the questions. Having said that, he's now saying that the AS he resat was harder than the A2 equivalent he sat on Tuesday! We shall see...

FantaSea · 06/06/2014 09:05

friendface welcome Smile ,DD had several resits before half term and she is reasonably happy with them, but worried about the C2 maths as that was hard. I was seriously worried that one, or more, would go very wrong and then that would throw her for her A2, as with DD, a lot of her problems with exams come down to nerves. It is so hard isn't it?

DD most recent exam was this Tuesday and now nothing until next week - she is flagging a bit as she seems just so tired. She looks absolutely washed out, poor thing.

Thinking of everyone who has exams today, and hope they go well.

bruffin · 06/06/2014 09:06

Stats 1 today. DS has been really working hard and it will only be silly mistakes that let him down

I took the day of yesterday and went for a spa day, it was heavenly Grin

HPparent · 06/06/2014 10:06

Bruffin, spa-day you say Envy. Hope your son is OK.
I think most people make silly mistakes.

Fantasea. Our kids were the first to be caught by the new resit rules. It is bloody unfair and prolongs the whole exam season as well as impacting on study and revision for A2.

FFS I am an atheist but prepared a prayer to St Joseph Cupertino this morning. I used St Margaret Pole for my own exams, I am convinced she must have interceded on one in particular as no way on earth could I have passed it.

HPparent · 06/06/2014 12:22

DD back, English seems to have gone OK - hope everyone else got on ok today. 1 A2 done, 4 exams to go. Only one for English thankfully. Chem 4 on Monday!

bruffin · 06/06/2014 14:53

DD just rang up and she was in same exam room as DS, but doing gcse biology and she said DS was working hard when she left.

HPpartent - I do feel a little guilty about yesterday, but there were no missed calls, so they managed ok without me. Glad your dd's english went ok.

HPparent · 06/06/2014 15:16

That's good news Bruffin!

DD is revising Chem 4 - I thought she might want the afternoon off - really proud of her.

bruffin · 06/06/2014 15:56

Heard it on the grapevine that stats 1 went ok (need a relieved smiley)

summerdip · 06/06/2014 16:13

How was Edexcel English? Haven't seen any of my students yet and we are not allowed the paper until Monday?

cardibach · 06/06/2014 16:30

DDs English went very well this morning - excellent questions which will have allowed her to show her skills. She is on track for A*, so fingers crossed. It'll really help her if she gets it as it may give her some leeway to slip a bit in Bio.

Hi everyone
DS had mechanics this afternoon which leaves him with 7 exams left to go over 2 weeks. Aahh Confused
He seems to be ok, taken 6 so roughly half way. I suspect the later half will be the toughest though as you get more and more tired.

Fanasea- how is your DD doing?

What with DD taking gcse's as well it feels like I'm walking on egg shells all the time.
Did anyone else's DC take mechanics today?

Gilnahirk · 06/06/2014 18:34

My DS did Edexcel M1 this afternoon and wasn't very happy with it. But Philosophy has gone very well this week, so things could be worse. Halfway through now, so he is having a night off tonight and going up to London with his girlfriend.
I'm just relieved that in the last few weeks he has finally started studying - did very little for GCSEs and AS levels.
Have a good weekend everyone.
