I remember our GCSE one 2 years ago. It was a haven! I hesitate to start this as I'm not totally confident of wanting to post DDs results in the end, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
So, how's the revision going? What are the tricky subjects for anyone's DC?
DD is revising steadily, but then she always does and has had some disastrous module results, so not filled with massive confidence. Biology is her issue - she knows and understands it but can't seem to give the examiner what they are looking for. We've had papers back and her tutor says she hasn't answered anything incorrectly, just hasn't said precisely what the examiner wants. Seems so unfair.

I'm stressing. Anyone else?

Thank you beck.

My Ds basically has concentration issues so he needs to work in 40 min bursts - which he does very well.

The visual timetable we do is I keep a chart of all that he has done and he checks it to see what else he needs to do.

He's back on the treadmill today working steadily and says he will try to do more to make up for a little less yesterday. Our issue is we have to encourage him to keep going consistently (every day since Jan.) because he can't do 6 hour stints like some students can.

Fingers crossed it will all pay off.

cardibach · 29/05/2014 22:31

Full day at the eisteddfod today so no work and both totally knackered! She didn't win...did herself proud, though.
Back to work tomorrow (with a break to take my parents out for dinner).

Waiting almost over here as DS1 has his first exam tomorrow - all a bit jittery yesterday, but seems more relaxed today. I think he'll be gald to finally get started.

cardibach · 01/06/2014 17:24

DD has her first exam tomorrow too - a Biology AS resit. I think she is also happy to be getting started. She has done some work today then had a burst of cleaning and tidying energy in her room and the kitchen. I think it's about adrenaline busting!

boys3 and cardi DD was much better having got her first exam out of the way, so I expect it will be the same for you, I do hope so.

DD has General Studies tomorrow, so at least that is one she is not too worried about.

Best of luck to everyone with exams this week.

BeckAndCall · 01/06/2014 20:12

Yep, seconding the good luck to everyone for this week message.

Don't start until next Monday here , so still going at a steady pace....

Isthiscorrect · 02/06/2014 03:47

Morning all,ds starts today then tomorrow, then Friday and then 2 next week. I think it's fair to say his normally calm demeanour has flown right by. To be honest 15 years ago when I was thinking about him starting nursery I never gave this day a thought, it was all so very far away. Seems like it's all gone in a flash.
Good luck to everyone, parents teachers and students.

boys3 · 02/06/2014 08:01

DS1 just headed out, wearing "lucky" tie from last year. Fingers crossed it will be again this time round. Continued good luck to all....

bruffin · 02/06/2014 08:11

Good luck to everyone.
DS has been working really hard this week. He has Stats 1 on friday. He has been swinging between As and Cs in passed paper. Turns out its the every other year and the Cs are in the papers that contain Histograms. Unfortunately this year is due a C paper. The good news is that as long as he gets the 180 ums on Core 3 and 4, he actually only needs 39 ums in Stats for A* or 29 for an A.

Petrasmumma · 02/06/2014 12:06

Good luck everyone! :)
DD starts in the morning, three this week. She can't wait.

cardibach · 02/06/2014 13:06

So DD has just started. Seemed family calm. She has done all she can, so it's in the lap of the gods now...

Fairly not family!

We've done 3 before half term - quite confidently. All starts next Monday - 9 to do. Agree, once started they seem to get into the groove.

Woke up late missed a Physics session but has worked steadily today ( he says!!) and has a tutor here now. Seems fairly cool - come Sunday - how will he be?!!!

Good luck to all - such a huge hill to climb. Fingers crossed- hard work pays off. Smile

HPparent · 02/06/2014 18:15

Hope your DD's Biology went well Cardibach.

Getting desperate here. Chemistry resit 2 for DD tomorrow. I bought her a Supergirl T shirt having read that a small (and unreliable) study in the US indicated that a group of students who wore Superman T shirts in exams did better than their peers. She didn't want to wear it for some strange reason Wink

summerdip · 02/06/2014 19:34

Love it. Positive t-shirts. Smile

cardibach · 02/06/2014 20:01

I certainly hope hard work pays off. Trouble is she worked hard last time and it didn't :(
She says it could go either way, but she is always a bit negative after an exam. Fingers crossed.

cardi hope your DD's biology went well.

HP hope your DD's chemistry goes well tomorrow - my DD has hers tomorrow too and is dreading it. She has done a lot of work for it so she is as well prepared as she can be, but calculations are prone to go wrong. Fingers crossed for both of them tomorrow Smile

HPparent · 02/06/2014 20:31

Thanks Fantasea, I will be thinking of your DD too and I hope it goes well. My DD seems quite confident as Chem I went ok. Hope the confidence is not misplaced! She has been mainly revising English today. Has to do a comparison between Paradise Lost and Volpone. Sounds a lot more difficult than in my day!

FantaSea · 02/06/2014 22:08

HP yes, same here too, DD found Chemistry unit 1 ok too. It is all much more difficult than in my day, both in terms of content and quantity. I am hoping we will both have good news tomorrow evening Smile

cardibach · 03/06/2014 07:53

HP I teach A level English and it is definitely harder than in my day! They are asked to do things I didn't have to so until degree level. It makes me so cross when people say exams have been dumbed down! Good luck to your DC - I'm sure she is prepared and will ace it! They do seem to rise to the challenge.

OP posts:
HPparent · 03/06/2014 16:51

Hope your DD got on Ok with Chem 2 Fantasea. DD found the paper tough but she managed to finish. Some of her friends didn't and skipped questions.

Cardi - it makes me do angry when people waffle on about how easy A levels are because x% get an A. Young people work incredibly hard and just get abuse from their elders.

FantaSea · 03/06/2014 22:09

HP I'm pleased your DD managed to finish - my DD found it hard too and she did finish. People coming out said how hard it was so it sounds like a difficult paper. Fingers crossed for both of them Smile

boys3 · 04/06/2014 12:51

HP English revision focus here now, in readiness for Friday. Here's hoping for not just my DS but for all DCs that their exams (whatever subject) will prove to be Paradise found rather than Lost, that they'll leave not thinking that they have just stepped out of a Bloody Chamber having made a Faustian pact with the devil, bur rather having scaled the Heights, Wuthering variety or any other

summerdip · 04/06/2014 14:01

still revising here. Scarily close. DS seems okay- I'm scared.Sad

Isthiscorrect · 04/06/2014 14:35

Boys3 Smile.
Ds took philosophy yesterday. He seemed cautiously optimistic which is fortunate as I didn't even understand the phrase. It wasn't a question and wasn't followed by discuss or anything!
