Managed move/negotiated transfer

Hi, can anyone send a link to Liverpool Education Authority for a managed move/negotiated transfer document pls? I can't seem to find it on their website.

Is it a public document? Or can they keep it private?

Thanks

the website just says you have to contact the school directly... is their a specific document or are you just assuming? i wonder how it works? [scratches chin]

Boygirl5 · 06/04/2014 12:58

I was assuming they would have a document to be adhered to for the process of managed moves/negotiated transfers for all schools that have opted into the scheme?
Other authorities appear to have such documents but I'm struggling to find anything on the liverpool site?

Thanks

I thought a managed move was something done on a fairly informal level for students who are not far off exclusion where a change of school might help. Done for a trial period of a month or so and if it works the student stays at the new school. I work in many schools and this is usually how it works from my understanding, I work with students who have often had a managed move. Parents are part of the discussion about what to do in my experience

No a managed move or negotiated transfer can be used for social and emotional reasons too. 12 weeks in total is the trial and can be extended to 2 terms!
Just wondered if there was any written instructions or rules anywhere
Thanks

Hi Boygirl 5, I was searching through appeal archives and read your case with interest, without knowing where you live, I knew exactly what school you're talking about! I've just submitted my son's appeal for the same school:) how did you get on in the end? X

prh47bridge · 02/05/2014 09:58

The OP now has a copy of Liverpool's Guidelines for Negotiated Transfers. The case is still ongoing.

I also know the school your after and they very rarely have free spaces available , having a managed move doesn't always give you the school you want if there no spaces available , or everyone would be doing this .

This is a very difficult school to get a place in . Lots of people who like a place here don't . It's just that over subscribed , with sibling taken a lot of places each year .

Have your twins not settled into there high school and formed some friendship by now . Know it's not necessary school you want , but if there clever they do well in most schools . If they being bullied etc , try for managed move just don't expect it to be this school . Know of others who have gone though this type of move , and not gotten school they wanted , but child just happy to move due to bullying.

Yes it's majorly over subscribed, according to the docs I've received there were 521 valid applications for Sept 14:( interesting to note though that on their website there is a proposal for it to become an "all through school " from Sept 15, meaning that it will admit pupils from 4-18, so even more places taken by siblings. This year they accounted for just over half of the intake. Expecting a lot more appeals this year so I'm not too hopeful but got to stay positive xx

appealtakingovermylife · 15/05/2014 22:41

Have found out there are 75 appeals:(

Boygirl5 · 16/05/2014 20:52

My child's managed move was not to the school to which I appealed.

I did not win my appeal, I wish you all lots of luck with your appeals. There were 51 appeals last year, of which 5 were successful and then a further 2 were successful after maladministration cases led to second appeals. HTH

Hi Boygirl5, I hope you're closer to resolving all this for your son, it's such a horrible stressful time. Yes the school quoted me the same figures, 51 appeals/5 won ( all on medical/social grounds ) but didn't mention the other 2 funnily enough. Still haven't had my date through, I physically took my appeal papers to the school so know they're there. Can't wait for it to be over, it's like a black cloud hanging over my head:( xx

appealtakingovermylife · 27/06/2014 06:22

Just an update, got the letter yesterday and we lost:(
8/62 were successful. Looks like at the balancing stage they only took 1/25 reasons into account and completely disregarded my travelling concerns, feel deflated and let down by them.

Sorry to hear it didn't go well , but with this particular school a long shot , but worth the try at least you can say you tried everything possible . Hope your son settles into the school you've been allocated . Hopefully it's at least one of your three choices .

appealtakingovermylife · 27/06/2014 20:34

Thanks homework:) yes the allocated school was our second and only other choice. My son is very much still against it due to the location, having to get 2 buses there and back but on reflection it does cater very well for asc, I'm in Knowsley and don't think we're spoilt for choice here or the surrounding borough's. I'm sure he will settle just fine and I've at least got some closure regarding the appeal.
( over 450 parents did not appeal so you're right, at least I tried!) X

appealtakingovermylife · 16/07/2014 20:51

Have today sent papers to the EFA as it seems there were 7 breaches of the appeals code:(
I know I won't be the only one.
Am wondering how many complaints were received last year, OP said a further 2 Maladministration appeals were allowed.
Really had enough of appeals but need to see this through, even if the EFA don't agree.
Will update once I've heard back from them.

homework · 17/07/2014 13:29

Appeal sent you pm .

appealtakingovermylife · 07/08/2014 07:55

Just to update, EFA have been in contact, they're investigating and agree with 5/7 breaches of the appeals code.
Clerks notes have been requested.
The lady I spoke to said that as long as they discover that 1 breach has impacted the outcome and in turn has disadvantaged my son, they will order a fresh appeal.
Will update once I've heard back.
