What could my year 8 daughter dress up in for World Book Day

My daughter has to dress up for World Book as a Character from a book that she likes. She doesn't really like reading that much and when she does it is animal stories. I don't want to have to go out and buy an outfit and am not good at sewing. Is there anything that any of you could suggest she wear. Its a case where the school are insisting that they dress up otherwise they will have extra written work to do. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Wasn't WBD at the beginning of March?

Could she go as Where's Wally? Stripy top, jeans and a hat...pretty easy, and no sewing required?! Though I guess it's not a very 'literary' character!

How about George from the Famous Five - does she have a toy dog she could take in whilst wearing normal 'boyish' clothes?

Some schools have "off peak" book weeks (handy if they want to book authors/storytellers/other events but can't get a slot in the main week).

Have you an animal onesie? Or a black leotard/tights to which you could add tail and ears (on a headband) and she could be Gobbolino or any other black cat?

She will be a little late for WBD I think? It was a couple of weeks ago.

Has she read Back Home by Michelle Magorian? The main character Rusty is about Y8 age and describes an outfit where she wears her cardigan backwards as it's the fashion in America, where she'd just moved back from. With an A- Line skirt and socks as I recall. And she always had her hair in two plaits I think......Could be quite easy to do if you can find the bit in the book. If she hasn't read it, I really recommend it :-)

If it's animal books, she could go in an animal onesie and just find one in a story that she can say she is dressing up as!

She has decided she will dress up in horse-riding clothes borrowed from a friend. I think the event can run from 6 March to 31 March and their event is on 31st. Thanks to all for taking the time to reply. I think its a bit silly at her age but who am I to dictate to the school!!!!!!

Dd's secondary always do world book day... A lot of the girls get into groups and go as seven dwarves etc.
Did always went as Mog....leggings, long fitted black tip, tail and ears on a headband
