yr 7 hockey with no safety kit for goalie?

My DD will be taking part in an inter tutor group tournament next week, but has come home to tell me she is in goal. I used to play, and had a giggle with her explaining about all the kit the goalie has to wear. Turns out, dd school dont have any kit whatsoever, and there isnt actually a goal either just a line faintly drawn on the wall behind dd. Am I wrong to think this is bonkers? Those hockey balls are bloody hard, and I though H and S had gone mad? Dont want to cause a scene at school, but equally dont want my dd ending up with a head injury :(

Do they play with a hockey ball? I can't imagine them letting someone play in goal without all the gear if they do.
At Dss school goalies are trained separately in Y7 (ie out of class time) as it takes so long for the boys to pad up (that could just be a boy thing though )

If they play with a hockey ball there's is no way they should be playing without pads. I'd email the head of games and check.

She says it's definitely a hard hockey ball?! Will email them tonight, thank you, just needed reassurance that I wasn't overreacting!

She may be playing as an additional defender rather than the goalkeeper - don't know rules exactly but she wouldn't be in gear for that. And she may be able to come out of D and play in mid while being the assigned person in goal. She wouldn't exactly be goal keeper although she and her team might say that as she'd be standing in goal. Without a keeper in pads there are rules about height of balls etc. At that age in DD school and club, they don't always have padded goalie so would not be particularly concerned. But if you are a call to school to check will hopefully put your mind at rest.

Has she at least got a mouthguard and goggles?

My ds is in year 7 and plays in goal. No way would I let him play without the full kit

No mouth guard, pads, goggles or anything. As dd is currently getting hassle from some of the team for being crap (their words) in goal, she doesn't want me to say anything to school. What do I do?

My DD plays as goalkeeper and school provided all the kit. She isnt allowed to play without mouthguard and shin pads (provided by us) as that is the rules.

I would phone school and ask for the PE teacher to call you back to discuss.

I know loads about both H&S and hockey as I played for years. If they are using proper sticks and balls then min standard must be shin guards / mouth guards etc - but goalie should be full kit. Can't be right surely ?

Well the result was that no one is in goal but they all play together as a 6 a side? Advised to get shin pads and mouth guard though

Worth asking the school why they are not following England hockey association guidelines of 'No mouthguard no game' at the very least.

Accident waiting to happen, I wouldn't be allowing to play with the safety gear
