.

I thought I would start another thread as our "little ones" are about to go into Year 7

And all that will involve for us and them

I wish them all well and good luck in their new schools and hope they all make lots of new friends

Otherwise the old thread may get confusing iyswim

.

My Ds2 is going into Y7 but has cheated a bit as Y6 is part of seniors so he knows his way around. Getting 60 new boys though. He's been in twice this week for rugby practice.

Hello everybody, DD starts her new school on Weds, she's very happy as her two sisters go back to primary school the day before, she's even insisting that she comes on the school run with me to make them feel even more jelous!

Have still got to alter the waist on her trousers and name her shin pads. Have got everything now...except we realised that she hasn't got a decent ruler!

She's arranged where to meet her friends so tht she's not walking alone, I'm to busy at the moment to think about how I feel about her starting her new school, but I doubt I'll sleep much the night before.

HenniPenni · 30/08/2006 21:16

Jealous...does this look right because jelous doesn't

magnolia1 · 30/08/2006 21:23

Dd1 starts next Tuesday which is the twins birthday and they don't go back till the next day so she is not impressed.
But its just yr7 and 6th formers that day so they get a day to get used to it.
I went to the same school so am really excited for her

Have everything now but need school shoes. Have had to leave it until the last minute because last time her feet grew between getting shoes and actually wearing them!!!

They have a house system at the school she is going to so it will be a bit different to what she is used to and I am dreading the homework, she is also not too organised and has 3 younger sisters and a baby brother on the way so I am hoping she can manage with the hectic life we have??

I hope all of you have a good week

DS is excited and a bit nervous today.

One of his friends that started at the Grammar school last friday came round and was telling us that he had had tests all day on 1st day and more this week.

I am glad DS had all those entrance exams in January so he doesn't have to have tests in his 1st week.

Are yours starting with tests? or don't you know yet?

DD has tests throughout the first two weeks, she's looking forward to when she starts on Wednesday.

RTKangaMummy · 04/09/2006 16:19

I think it is ok if you know about them happening

But he didn't seem to be expecting them and was surprized about what was happening

He had done a Maths and Verbal reasoning paper last year for the entrance

But I guess cos siblings and distance don't have to take exam they need to know for putting in sets.

DS1 starts tomorrow, the day before his younger brothers go back. We've done numerous repackings of the school bag and instructions on what to do if the trains don't work out properly (We really need "Worst case scenario - getting to secondary school", but I don't think there is one...). DH and I both did Latin and French, but DS1 is doing German as well, about which we know nothing. Oh well, we were planning to leave all homework to him anyway .

All the best to everyone's DS/DD (or should I say not-so-LO) on their first days

Loshad · 05/09/2006 11:13

Ds2 will only be setted for maths and languages in Y7, based on last years exam results for existing boys, or entrance test results for new boys (plus obviously special classes for those who have done neither french nor german before).

RTKangaMummy · 05/09/2006 20:38

DS really enjoyed today

He made friends with several boys in his House and form

Had a really deffo brill lunch.

He has a personal mentor from Upper 6th who will look after him and help him settle in

How were all your DS/DD today???????

Well, it's DDs first day tody, she looked really grown up in her uniform- she looked so different to how she did in her primary uniform.

She said she was feeling nervous but excited at the same time. I can't wait for her to come home already!

Hallgerda · 06/09/2006 09:25

DS1 had a good time yesterday, and amazed me by coming home looking as smart as he did when he left the house - I wondered briefly whether my real son had been abducted by aliens . I was amused by some of the small print in the uniform rules section of the planner - discreet highlights permitted but not beards except for sincere religious reasons. Today he has his first proper lessons, including French followed immediately by German.

clerkKent · 06/09/2006 13:22

Hallgerda - perhaps he will meet my DS (year 8). Which house is he in?

Hallgerda · 06/09/2006 14:06

clerkKent, DS1's in Hayes. Which house is your son in? (I presume our sons travel in opposite directions around the Sutton loop so will not have met on the train.)

clerkKent · 06/09/2006 16:23

Hallgerda - Southwark. DS gets the bus, not the train. He spent all of one hour at school yesterday, meeting the new form teacher and getting his timetable.

Dd1 had a great day yesterday, only yr7 and 6th form in for the day. Today 1st proper day and she has had trouble finding her classroom! Bless her!

She is having fun though although German, Science and Geograpghy 2 days in a row for each has worn her out

She is looking forward to Drama more than anything!

legalmum · 07/09/2006 10:01

Hi, my son started grammar yesterday and rated it 7 out of 10. He is a bit of an airhead and has already lost his timetable so needs to grovel to his form tutor today. He's always been v. sociable and had lots of friends at his old school, but knows no-one at the new one. Unfortunately, there seems to be a bit of a clique in his class as many of them went to the same primary, and he's feeling a bit cold-shouldered. I've advised him to put himself forward a bit and if poss, tag along to his classmates in the lunch queue (yesterday he sat alone for lunch). It's hard to hear, and I hope he has a better day today.

Hallgerda · 07/09/2006 13:51

Sorry to hear your son's having a bad time, legal mum. I hope matters improve for him. My DS1 didn't know anyone either, but seems to be slowly getting to know the others - I'm a bit more comfortable with that than I would be with him announcing he had a new best friend on the first day.

legalmum · 07/09/2006 14:00

Thanks Hallgerda, good point!I'm finding it really hard to let go, I'm so used to organising social stuff with other mums at the school gate, guess I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that he doesn't spend the next 7 years as a wallflower.

mumblechum · 11/09/2006 11:23

(I've changed my nickname ffrom legalmum). Well, ds has now had 3 days at new school and loves it & has made about 6 friends. It was just me being paranoid. Hope everyone else's new Y7s are settling in.
