.

I thought I would start another thread as our "little ones" are about to go into Year 7

And all that will involve for us and them

I wish them all well and good luck in their new schools and hope they all make lots of new friends

Otherwise the old thread may get confusing iyswim

.

So are you back now RTKM?

MarsLady · 12/08/2006 19:45

DD1 and I are off shopping for the final bits on Wednesday. We are having a girlie day. So shopping, lunch, more shopping and then tea. Then home exhausted lol

RTKangaMummy · 13/08/2006 13:13

We are still in Sydney, Australia,

We leave here on Wednesday morning to go to Cook Islands in South Pacific

We return to UK next Tuesday morning 22nd August

DS is excited about new school but as we are on holiday he isn't really talking about it as much as he will when we get home.

DS has been on MSN with some of his friends from old school.

He has arranged to go swimming with them when we get home, the ex-year 6 can use school swimming pool for the holiday swimming club, that runs through the summer holidays.

The prob is we still have to get school shoes, rugby boots, trainers and a certain model of calculator and so we will be rushing round with all the other disorganized parents at end of August.

As he will be walking to school with DH and he knows the path well we don't have to practise that or I will drive them both.

But even here in Sydney and during our trip, around Australia, we have been letting him have more independance in shops etc. But it is very strange.

slight thread hijack KTKanga mummy- havebeen following your journey with interest ( and added hot water beach to our list of places to visit in Jan) How do you like Sydney.. we are off to live there for a year in DEc and am not feeling quite as excited at the mo.. too much to do
Is it lovely? Is it sunny even tho' it is winter?

RTKangaMummy · 13/08/2006 13:42

Hot water beach is deffo brill, check the times of the tides

Sydney weather is deffo brill, warm and sunny, about 21 C.

clear blue sky

Colder nights though

Loads to do but quite expensive doing tourist stuff like tours etc.

Spent ages this morning sitting in the sunshine, at circular quay listening to buskers and watching world go by, it had a real buzz to it.

Aahh.. that sounds more prmising and an image I wll hang onto whilst I get all the paperwork etc ready. Thanks

How has DS enjoyed it all btw?

RTKangaMummy · 13/08/2006 13:56

He has loved it, thanks.

He has been sooooooooo excited about Sydney Opera House we went in there today and he was soooooooooo pleased and happy

So would that be a good place for me to go to celebrate my fortieth birthday?

RTKangaMummy · 24/08/2006 22:37

Yes guess so

We have now got more organized

New school shoes

Rugby/hockey boots + shoe bag

Calculator

School shirts

PE shirts

Shin pads for hockey

Ordered the O-Pro mouthguard which they come to fit on 1st day

We still have to get trainers for PE

How is everyone else doing?

Have you got shin pads for hockey and have they got a strap around the foot and knee

Cos we were told NOT to get football ones but these are weird looking. With no straps.

celia yes they are. and must not be too near the knee.

hard to find a bag like they require these days. Nike is pretty subtle as is addidas

Hallgerda · 25/08/2006 14:27

DS1 is at a sports course at his new school this week - he's really loving it. And he's making his own way there and back and getting to know other boys making similar journeys.

And I've done the name tapes! It brought back harrowing memories of school needlework lessons, but I got through it .

RTKangaMummy · 25/08/2006 19:45

is this bag any good?

We took the hockey shin pads back cos they were completely wrong size and so we still need to find the right ones

We got his tracksuit trousers and his traners for PE today

I have only done one name label in his blazer

What have you done about naming rugby boots and shoes?

I used to get the labels from CLARKS but for got to get them

OP posts:
RTKangaMummy · 25/08/2006 19:46

The sports course soundsa deffo brill idea

OP posts:
Hallgerda · 25/08/2006 20:29

RTKM, I used laundry marker pen on the inside of the trainers, boots etc. - I couldn't think how else to do it without making a lumpy bit that might cause blisters.

RTKangaMummy · 25/08/2006 20:39

His school shoes and rugby boots are black

His trainers are white so can write in those

OR are laundry pens other colours apart from Black????

OP posts:
Hallgerda · 25/08/2006 21:14

Sorry, RTKM, I've only found black ones. I'm relying on DS1 being completely unable to fit anyone else's shoes! (Trainers seem rather more forgiving of high insteps).

rustybear · 25/08/2006 21:15

I used Clark's labels similar to these but I don't know how long you've got.

rustybear · 25/08/2006 21:18

My DS used to use a tipp-ex pen for black things - her dss were at boarding school and she not only had to label everything, she also had to put hanging loops on everything (incl. wellies) so they could be hung up off the floor

we got these deffo brill hockey shin pads

DS loves them

They have special pads to protect the ankles and front of foot and they are only £6

Although the guy in shop tried to charge DH more money

SHIELD SHINGUARD they are called from GRAYS

I sent off for some of those labels for his shoes Thanks

If they don't arrive in time I will use tipex

I have hinted to my mum about embroidering his initials on his rugby kit and we are going there tomorrow and she is going to do it

DS is sooooooooo excited about his uniform and wants to wear it to show my parents

What day is everyone starting?

DS goes in on Tuesday for induction day {gum shield fitting, photographs and choir audition} also meeting form teacher and House Master/tutor.

And then school starts for real on Wednesday

Good luck to all your DS/DD as they start on their new adventure.

Yes, DS does enjoy singing

I guess the audition may be, but I guess this is the easiest time for it for the music dept.

How is your DS feeling?

How are you feeling?
