Anyone nervous waiting to find out about secondary school place?

I didn't think I would be this nervous to be honest. The school that I really want DS to go to used to be a private school but is now an academy and there were at least 7 applicants for every place. I have been playing it cool and have told him that it is far more likely that he will be going to the second choice school but it will be fab if he gets into the number one choice.

The second choice school is good but nowhere near as good as the first choice school which I think will give him such a good head start. They don't have grammar schools here but to me, this is the closest thing to one. I went to a grammar school and it really helped.

Bit nervous too. Not long to wait. We're fairly confident that we'll get our first choice, but it would be nice to know for sure.

Yes counting down the days. Fingers crossed everyone gets the schools the want.

Yes, and trying hard not to let DD know I'm nervous.

Have 3 schools within easy walking distance but the one we like least is our catchment school.
DD, understandably, wants to go to the one most of her friends are going to (who all live in catchment so not a problem) and although I know they won't be together once they get there just knowing they will be at the same school will help DD with the transition.

yes very nervous here, will be happy with 1st or 2nd choice, I think these next two weeks will drag, Just think though this time next year will be a distant memory and hopefully our children will be settled in there new schools.

Were hoping for Esher High School by the way.

dd is counting the days - me, I'm just burying my head in the sand!!

I know DS will be upset if he doesn't get the first choice but unfortunately so will a lot of other children. Am keeping all fingers and toes crossed though

DD had a dream last night of obtaining a place in her favourite girl's grammar school. We are on the border of the catchment area so she would have had to be amongst the top 100 places ... rather unlikely and wonder how to handle a possible disappointment.

I'm always nervous as we're marginally out of catchment, I have 2 there already so should be ok - it's my last one so once this is (hopefully!) confirmed I can stop worrying and start worrying about my eldest's uni application - it never ends!

I wish you all luck. I was on your position last year & remember the nerves. My dd got her first choice. My friend's ds didn't & then managed to get a place in year due to movement. There still is hope if it doesn't go your way straight away. Just have to be patient, persistent & unfailingly pleasant. Good luck!

No nerves here, there is only one secondary in our town. I did put down a second choice for DD2 which is 8 miles away in another town and which we don't want her to go to, but the DDs seem to have been born in smaller year cohorts so no pressure on places in their years.

It's tricky in YrR round our way though, both local primaries are now oversubscribed and there's nothing else.

Beginning to feel slightly nervous for DD2. Criteria fit 1st choice is siblings then distance. Lost sibling link ad DD1 had to move for 6th form. Distance borderline, but hoping will be OK as low birthrate year.

2nd choice is catchment school, but not keen.
