Because it has a major grammatical whopper in it, referring to 'less students taking MFL at GCSE...' when that should clearly read 'fewer' students...

Should it? Isn't the point that a lower percentage of students take a MFL at GCSE, so it may actually be a greater number?

If they mentioned percentages that is potentially plausible, but the actual text doesn't. And if they meant percentages, they should have written 'a smaller proportion of students taking GCSEs are taking MFL' or something along those lines.

And unless the absolute number of students taking GCSEs nationally is going up (I do not know whether this is the case) then surely the absolute number taking MFL cannot be greater? Confused
