Is Westminster School the best school on Earth?

Just looking at their website and they have 97 places for their students at Oxford and Cambridge this year?!

We have an 8 year old son and want to focus on getting him into this place, just next to the Palace of Westminster. It looks amazing! Any thought on parents with children at the school very welcome indeed, especially any thoughts on the application process. Thank you for someone new to London.

I would definitely lead with your theory about dunces when you meet the HT of Westminster OP Wink.

You don't have to have a lexicon of rude terms to describe people. We all know perfectly well that there is a range of abilities. But using words like dunce is ugly. And using lol is cringy. Misjudgment of posting style. If you wanted genuine advice on the school, there are probably enough women on this site with children at high performing schools to get some useful information. But you are either trying to get a rise out of people or you're a poor judge of tone.

MrsBungle · 01/02/2014 22:59

Hmm, when choosing schools, meeting the queen has not been on my list of priorities. What a dunce I am!

TheXxed · 01/02/2014 22:59

No OP come back, I was just warming to you. Your eloquent speech and brand of common sense thinking was beginning to finally change my namby pamby British views.

When choosing my son's school I got all excited that Katy from 'I can cook' had visited in the past. But then I live in the North, we have low aspirations.

HanSolo · 01/02/2014 23:00

I am assuming this thread is actually a joke, tbh... Max Hastings?

OP- please tell me you know that the 'Palace of Westminster' is not where Her Majesty lives...?

BIWI · 01/02/2014 23:00

Welcome to Mumsnet, statesmom

You have posted a very inflammatory, some would say 'goady' first post.

Was it your intention to be so offensive?

I shall give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you have a deplorable lack of understanding about how fantastic our state school system is.

Perhaps you should engage your fantastically clever, lawyer-type brain when you next post?

nkf · 01/02/2014 23:00

I think it's a joke too.

Sparklysilversequins · 01/02/2014 23:01

Adrian Chiles dd goes to MY dd's primary

TheMildManneredMilitant · 01/02/2014 23:04

Ahh living the dream sparkly.

kernowal · 01/02/2014 23:06

The Queen 's English would use the word "mum" not "mom". Do the top schools mark you down for using Americanisms in an entrance exam?

TheXxed · 01/02/2014 23:07

statesmom gone but not forgotten.

Newyearchanger · 01/02/2014 23:09

Some children are not academic OP, but to call children stupid or dunces is old fashioned offensive and not very nice.
Children have different strengths , all need to reach their potential and are also people who should be spoken about in respectful terms.

LittleBearPad · 01/02/2014 23:14

I think mother would be the preferred term Kernowal, maybe mum in moments of excitement. Certainly not mom. Wink

Gunznroses · 01/02/2014 23:15

So OP all the smart kids are at Westminster school. Considering only 7% of kids are privately educated, that will be nought nought point whatever percent of the total. The remaining 93% of kids of the total population are all "dunces" Hmm because they are at state school, i.e about 99% of Mners children. You're not the sharpest pencil in the box are you?

kernowal · 01/02/2014 23:21

Sorry little, I was obviously referring to the Queen 's English the majority would use, rather than just the Queen 's English used by the elite. I stand corrected & blame my inferior education.

Thank you MNHQ for intervening in the bunfight.

Sometimes I do wish we had like/dislike buttons on here. By the time I had typed my responses, the sword of niceness had sprinkled goodness all over the land.
