AS level question

AtiaoftheJulii · 01/02/2014 02:05

Is there a time limit for doing AS level modules? E.g. if someone did I've this year and one next year, would that count as an AS level? Or do they have to be taken at the same time?

Try his can be different for different exam bnoards. can you ask the school/college exams officer? or find pout the exma board and call them?

They have to be taken at the same time now; the courses are no longer modular as such and no Jan exams. So you take both (all) papers in May/June and get your result in August. If you fail, or don't do so well, you can re- sit the whole thing.

AtiaoftheJulii · 01/02/2014 23:37

Can you point me in the direction of something confirming that? I'm not seeing anything concrete apart from courses that start their teaching in September 2015. My Google fu is failing me.

I have emailed the school.

This confirms Jan exams no longer available: ofqual.gov.uk/news/ofqual-announces-changes-to-a-levels/

I'm now questioning what I said about the modular thing and just checking...

Roisin · 02/02/2014 03:00

Sorry, I was wrong AS levels can still be modular with opportunities to sit modules at different times, including re-sits, I think. Just there are fewer opportunities (just once a year ) or those exams. See for example p.57 of this exam spec.

Though of course most centres do deliver AS in a single year: a) to then move onto A2 and b) because universities use AS marks as predictors for offers.

Why are you asking? What's the scenario?

Roisin · 02/02/2014 03:01

Sorry; p.52 of the spec refers.

DD's school takes AS critical thinking over two years. One module each June.
DS is going to take AS further maths as a twilight subject split over both years of sixth form.
So yes you can.
