Can anyone advise whether st benedicts or st augustines would be better for my dd who is lacking in self confidence?

It really depends what factors have contributed to her self-confidence. My dd is at St Benedicts and is very happy there. There are only a small number of girls in each class but this was something that she preferred to
an all-female environment. Presumably you've visited both? Assuming that you are not starting next September and have some time before applying, do try and take your daughter to the open evening that is held for girls each year.
