Please help.

We've not long moved to the area and need to look at secondaries.

Ou DD is in y6 at a school she came late to in the year. I've no idea where to start looking - preferable co-ed. private or state we don't mind. Thanks.

Could you be more specific on area as East Surrey covers a large area.
If your dd is already in yr 6 then any state application will be classed as 'late' and it will probably be a case of whatever school has spaces in your area.
Private schools will also be doing their entrance exams now or in the next few weeks for September.

If your dd is going into year 7 in Sept 2014, you will have missed the applications for state, and also entrance exams for the private route, although sometimes you can apply late for these.

Which area of East Surrey are you?

beachedwhalesarecool · 12/01/2014 12:19

I am in the Redhill/Reigate area and went through the application system last year if that helps at all?

inthename · 12/01/2014 12:59

? I'm confused beached. (Sorry) Did you go through the application system last year for an in year place for the primary she is now attending or did you fill in the CAF form for Secondary which had to be submitted in October and which you will receive notice of which secondary your dd has been allocated in March.

If you didn't fill in the CAF form for secondary and submit it in october, then your dd will be treated as a late applicant, so you would need to contact Surrey County Council and it will very much depend on what schools have spaces.

If you filled in the CAF then you will surely already know which secondaries you listed (hence why I'm confused)

Independent schools would have asked you to complete a registration form, pay a registration fee normally by thr end of November 2013 and she would then sit the entrance tests now. Again, if you've registered with any schools then you wouldn't be asking about what schools are in the area?

So, I'll assume that you haven't completed a CAF for entry to Year 7 in September 2014.
That will limit your options as it will literally be a case of who has spaces.
Where does her current primary typically send most of their year 6 to?
Rdedhill/Reigate area I know of St Bedes and The Warwick School are state secondaries, St Bedes used to be the most popular but don't have recent knowledge.

Private the most obvious is Reigate Grammar (though their entrance exam is happening around now) then there used to be Dunottar (girls only) but again don't know what they are like currently.

Probably best to ring Surrey County Council admissions department tomorrow for information on your situation and ring any private schools to see if they have entrance exams that haven't happened yet.

beachedwhalesarecool · 12/01/2014 13:27

Sorry, I didn't make it clear... I applied for a Secondary place for my DD and she started year 7 in September. What I should have said is, as I have friends with children at most of the Secondaries in the area I can help if the OP needs any info on the schools from people who have children already there.

inthename · 12/01/2014 13:33

Oops - and I've confused you with the OP! Should learn to read properly!

OP - your applications for either private or state are going to be late.
For state - ring Surrey County Council admissions for advice, schools likely to be St Bedes or Warwick
For private - ring each school and ask if they will accept late entrants for their entrance exams
