EdExcel Music Composition Controlled Assessment

Does anyone else have a Y10 DC doing their composition controlled assessment this coming term? I was just looking at the curriculum on the EdExcel website and it states that the "Controlled assessment conducted at any time but submitted at the end of the course". So mine will be doing the assessment in January but it won't be submitted until next year. It seems very early in the course. Is it worth querying this with his teacher or just hope for the best?

As a separate issue, he has concerns that his teacher isn't preparing them very well and that he won't have sufficient skills to do the work well enough to get a good grade.

My Ds is taking this course. He has done two compositions, one in year ten, the other the first term of year 11. They take several weeks worth of lessons each and so to leave both to year eleven would make things a rush as there is also two performances to record as well as the end exam to prepare for.
The change to linear exams means nothing is now submitted until the end of the course, whereas in the past they would have submitted modules as they went along.

Thanks for that. I talked to DT1 again and he has confirmed that they are only doing one this term and the other next year. He hadn't told me that detail previously. He is feeling better about it this week than he did last week.

DD is in year11 doing music. I think she has now done the 2 compositions but they are given time to go back over them and improve them.

DD1 in yr 12, done Edexcel GCSE Music.
Started first composition in yr10, 2nd in yr11 then redid 1st. Don't think any were submitted until the (April or May IIRC) final deadline in yr11.
