Does anyone have a child at a Free School (secondary)?

There is a new secondary school opening in our area next year and I'm wondering if it might be a better choice for my DS then the local comprehensive. I'm a bit reluctant as it's brand new and therefore a bit of unknown quantity.

I'd welcome any advice on what to look for/the sort of questions to ask etc and if you think it's a good or bad idea. Thanks.

Have they got school buildings? 'cause the one opening near here is starting in portacabins on a different site while they design and build the school.
The new comp that opened here less than 10 yrs ago has just scored very highly in the rankings, so new can be good - but then we are desperate for schools!

They've just acquired old buildings to be converted, but it's in the middle of town, so I'm thinking what do they do about PE facilities etc? We are surrounded by very average schools where I live, so anything a bit new and different seems attractive.

It is worth considering. I always recommend the website www.how-to-choose-a-school.org/. It has good sections on free schools, and also questions to ask to find out the information you need. Good luck.
