How far is too far for 16 year old DD to travel to school??

DD has been offered a place at Jags for 6th form but I'm concerned the journey from wimbledon is too far! Any thoughts?

Have you tried the trains in the rush hour? You should do this.

Kids travel from Worthing and Camden Town. Why is Wimbledon too difficult?

According to the TfL journey planner, it can be one direct train from Wimbledon and less than an hour each way. I would have thought that's acceptable unless you're a long way away from station in Wimbledon.

It has to be weighed against all sorts of considerations: how important is that particular school to your ds, what does it offer that some closer school might not, how much would travelling worry him, how long would his total day be etc?

My dd, who is in poor health, catches the 7 a.m. bus to college and gets home at 5 p.m. She chose it because they are the only ones who offer precisely the combination she wants. In her case, it is worth it because she has one particular career path in mind and she sees this as the best way forward.

Why doesn't your 16yo do a trial run and see what he thinks; that might help him to see more clearly.

There are pupils heading to all three Dulwich schools from all over the place. She definitely won't be the only one travelling from Wimbledon.

we live in a rural area. mine will be catching the bus at 7.30 and not getting home until almost 5pm every day. no other choice if she wants to do a sixth form as there aren't any others any nearer. she is down for 5 a levels but we have already spoken to the school and said we want to adjust this to 4 because of the travelling. they are cool about it because it is common round here. does make homework quite tough in the week.
