If your Year 7 dd did PE every day how many kits would you buy?

I'm beginning to think I'm making life hard for myself.

Dd does ballet at school every day at least an hour to an hour and a half per day, on a couple of days she has it after school too

At primary her PE kit was sent home every half term but now she's getting older I find I'm having to hand wash her stuff every other day.

I'm wondering if I'm being tight not buying two leotards (she has a separate one for tap & modern which she wears most days for an hour too.

No experience, but unless they are very, very expensive I would buy two at this stage. She sounds committed.

Also I'd begin getting her to take charge of them herself. Show her how to wash and dry them. This doesn't necessarily mean she has to do it all herself, just that you get some respite, and over the next couple of years she'll be able to gradually shoulder the responsibility that comes with her chosen sport.

Crickey, Pictures, are you not making life very hard for yourself? All that handwashing and drying in winter.

In our circumstances I would buy at least two sets of the stuff that gets really sweaty (and she is 11/12, so she'll be very sweaty and smelly by now?).

In an ideal world, three sets, so one she is wearing, one that is in the wash or drying, and one ready for wear the next day (because should she not have a clean one every day, re the sweat and smell?). Even this means you are constantly having to wash.

However, I have no idea what these things cost, or if you can budget for them. It seems that it's very important to her, so you can certainly justify the expense.

Logically for your poor hands, four leotards and four sets of tights would be an investment which would be justified if you can afford it.

That being said I have a non-sporty Yr7 DS, so have no concept at all of what it must be like to have such a 'sporty' child. So apologies if I have got things totally wrong.

By 11/12 I'd say anything that gets sweaty should be washed after each wear. You wouldn't wash out her only pants or t-shirt every day, you'd buy enough to get through a few days so you had a load for the machine. Obviously if ballet leotards and tights are horribly expensive then it needs to be a compromise between money and time/effort, but I'd certainly try to get a second set to make life a little easier if it was at all possible.

The leotards are £25 each (special school design)

She is only just starting to hit puberty so has only just started to sweat the last few months. Her tap & modern leotard does often smell after a session as that's more high impact. However she doesn't use that one every single day. Her ballet one I haven't really noticed smelling yet but it's worn at least once, sometimes twice a day.

Some days I do put them in the washing machine/ tumble dryer but because they are. Coloured I don't always have enough other stuff to go in with them to justify running the machine/dryer.

If she is only now pubescent she will only get smellier!!! However, she will also grow too, so even if you can afford several, these will be outgrown quite quickly?

But it does seem that you need at least one more leotard and pair of tights. Does the school not sell any secondhand on stalls at Christmas fairs, etc? With one coming up, that might be a place where you could find one?

She wears ballet socks not tights & we do have 4 pairs if those (fairly cheap can be bought from any dance shop)

No second hand sales. We were given a seco d hand one but its come in a hole around the ruching

Several of the dancers have a scholarship from the government with a clothing/ uniform allowance, sadly dd doesn't.

So what are you washing every other day? The leotard? If so, maybe one more of those and you can manage?

I would definitely get a second leotard. I used to dance every night after school through my teenage years and I think I had at least two leotards. I used to handwash them, and my tights (well, you mostly just need to scrub the feet!), in between proper washes.

Ds has indoor PE on a Monday (clean trainers needed) and outdoor games on a Wednesday (trainers for walking to sportsground and spikes to wear once there needed).

I buy two pairs of trainers every year (as well as the spikes) otherwise we'd be washing the trainers every week to get them clean again for Monday's indoor PE. Can't be doing with that.

Just get a 2nd. DD is a keen swimmer (lesson or training 3x/week) & has 3 suits!

DS was a keen sportsman. In the end I gave in and just bought a lot even though it was expensive. Four pairs of socks, three shorts, training tops, full strip etc. Anything for an easy life. It's a miniscule amount in the context of the overall costs of raising a child.

definitely at least 2. We have cunning plans going on here where the "spare" for now is actually in the next size so we dont have two the same - otherwise one which gets a bit less of a bashing so is the one used for performances etc
offset the amount you've got to fork out against all the washing and drying

Yes, buy more, particularly if you have to hand wash it. Min play sport every day, though particular sports eg rugby only feature 5 days/ week and I have more than one set, and that just gets chucked in the washer and dryer.

DD is off for 4 days away Pictures with 2 new leotards & tights plus 2 old leotards & tights

I know she is older but I can't expect her to wash while she is away especially this trip

I think 2 is a minimum tbh (just buy a bit big )

I can't buy big. They are a really low back so the arms on the correct size keep slipping down her shoulder as it is!!!

It's assessment week this week so she's been wearing her leotard all day every day!

That's not good planning of them - they should be secure!

I think what has happened is she's pulled it up by the shoulders. It's sort of a low back sleeveless with thick straps

I dislike low back ones as if you need a bra they look silly (I know she's only 11)

We like the Bratek ones but I know she has to have uniform ones!!

Hopefully we will have to too next year
