Quiz from school where all answers can be googled in 1 second!

My child was emailed a able gifted and talented quiz from school to which they would be prizes for the child with most correct answers. I googled one of the clues, and the first hit was the answers to the complete quiz! So I let the teacher know, but have had no reply. I just thought that it would be unfair. They was nothing on the quiz to say you shouldn't use the internet or books to research the answers, and nothing on the quiz to acknowledge where it had come from. IMHO some of the questions are ridiculously inappropriate for pre teens / teens, ie they are all cryptic but some involving names of currently unpopular c list celebrities!

Sounds like the teacher with responsibility for G & T is just going through the motions. This kind of box-ticking exercise in schools is annoying ("Oh yes, we have an enrichment curriculum"). They should either do it properly or not at all. Humph!

I wanted to point it out to the teacher, as it would be unfair on children who answered the questions without googling, but probably should have sent my child in with a full set of answers like everyone else! . But the questions are ridiculously cryptic, even with the answers??.

Why were you Googling the clues? Was this not a quiz for your daughter to complete? However, you have hit on something that is a challenge for teachers today. It is too easy for children to find information, copy and paste it and not even read or understand what they find. I am not a languages teacher but I feel sorry for them regarding 'Google translate', for example. Times are-a changing!

It has been known for teachers to leave the wrong answers on desks.

The quiz was emailed to me to give to my child, and I opened it and read through the questions (which are cryptic and IMHO difficult but tbh I am a bit rubbish at cryptic clues :)) I googled it as a matter of interest, not to do it for my child.
They definitely are the right answers.
Blissx, your point about copying and pasting is interesting, because this teacher has given no indication he has taken this quiz from an internet site without acknowledging the source (the quiz site says you can use this quiz for free but please acknowledge this website). I got the impression the quiz was the teacher's own work!

It looks like the quiz was designed for a typical quiz scenario, you know, village hall, teams where of course googling wouldn't be allowed. But the teacher has sent it to an 11 year old, and it just says, answer these questions, prizes for most correct answers.
I don't want to link to the exact quiz but it is the sort of thing where all the answers are from a particular theme.

Does sound like the teacher himself got it from the Internet in its entirety and really does defeat the object if pupils can access the answers so easily. You were right to flag this up, so maybe he can think of something else. The Internet does produce problems as quickly as it solves them!
