A bit off subject here but vaguely secondary school related... I watched a River Cottage episode the other evening and Hugh F-W's son was making a desert. The son was so very charming and well spoken and seemed very eloquent it made me wonder if Hugh sent his children to private school!
Anyone know?

So no state sector children can be charming, well-spoken or eloquent?

how was he making a desert? was he jinxing rainfall over Dartmoor or something. Now if he can do that, he must be at a private school.

I know one of his sons is at the local State Grammar (super selective)

I would imagine Hugh sends his children to boarding school somewhere in Surrey so that they don't pick up that frightful Dorset accent.

Both of my boys went to a local comprehensive. They are perfectly well spoken and charming. Why wouldn't they be?

H F-W went to Eton. Don't know about his kids.

He lives in a very well spoken part of the Dorset/ Devon boarders. Lots of local kids sound like that.

Have a , OP, for making assumptions about us state school plebs. It's from Waitrose, so should be up to your standards.

its the kids at DCs school who get either a new pony or a new horse box for their birthday every year that do my head in.

To be fair, my state schooled 13yo is a mumbling oik. But then so are some of his privately educated friends (although when they are being obnoxious it tends to be loudly).

I think most neurotypical 13yo boys are mumbling oiks, aren't they? And when they're not being mumbling oiks, they're being silly loud-mouthed show-offs. My DD1 has decided - on the strength of her passing acquaintance with the genus young adolescent male - that she is not going to date until she is at least 18.

My teenagers are state school educated, as is my adult son and me and we are all perfectly charming and eloquent, thank you very much. It's not just the remit of public school children.
