Happy Halloween? Or anything similar. DS (11) has to create a halloween card for his French homework, but is unsure what is the right phrase (in fact, is unsure of any French) to be included.

I would go with Joyeux Halloween! (Halloween is just the same word in French).

I would say Bonne fête d'Hallowe'en

'La saison effrayant est ici'.

I just made that up. It may not be good French but it works for me.

This half-term holiday is known as the Vacances de la Toussaint (All Saints') in France and Belgium. All Saints' Day is 1st November, just FYI in case he wants to do something different Halloween Wink.

Useful Québécois vocab sheet for Hallowe'en

OK, if he's learning French French, then there might be some differences. But as Hallowe'en is generally a much bigger deal in N America, I'd go Canadian for this one.

Are Halloween cards even a thing? Anywhere?

Elibean · 28/10/2013 19:26

Very weird French homework!

I would go with Bonne Fete d'Halloween. Or not go with any and just do a witch with a speech bubble saying something spooky, instead.

Ces devoirs me font peur Halloween Grin

If you look on linguascope (assuming he has a school log in) there is a section on Halloween with some nice vocab
