Yr 7 homework grades

Can anyone help me decipher my daughter's classical homework grade? E:3/4 A:3 for one piece of work and E:3 A2 for the other. Maths is band 5.

Could you ask her? She presumably knows how the schools marking system works?

Mutlu · 22/10/2013 17:41

You would think so. Her teacher hadn't marked any of her work since returning in September, when he returned her book today she asked without response. It will get sorted tomorrow, I was just curious

Effort and Attainment?

noblegiraffe · 22/10/2013 17:44

Sounds school specific, you'll need to ask them.

JoannaBaxterLovesBumsex · 22/10/2013 17:46

Sounds like effort and attainmemnt to me too.
Eg the mark is E and 4 for effort, meaning she is not trying hard enough?

JoannaBaxterLovesBumsex · 22/10/2013 17:47

Or the other way round. There should be an explanation for parents though otherwise it is all a bit daft.

Arisbottle · 22/10/2013 19:13

Sounds like effort and attainment grades, My exercise books all have a sheet in the front which explains my marking .

Mutlu · 23/10/2013 11:33

I had thought effort and attainment which indicates not trying however, at parents evening we were told they were really impressed with her. She got 5 in her sats so definitely need clarification. Seems stupid to me that the pupils have no idea what it means let alone parents!

Maybe it's on a scale of 1-5, in which case 4 would be quite good?

Ours just gets levelled against NC criteria for that particular topic, which is much clearer.

LeBearPolar · 23/10/2013 11:39

It sounds as if she got 3/4 for Effort and 3 for Attainment on that first piece (i.e. for Effort she is on the borderline between a 3 and a 4). It depends which way the numbers go, however, for what it means - i.e. is 1 the best or the worst grade? It sounds as if that piece of homework was average for attainment either way. We have a 1-5 effort scale, with 5 being the best and 1 being no effort at all!
