Anyone just started home schooling this year? Seriously thinking about pulling out of year 8 and home schooling. No one we know does this. Anyone have any thoughts.

It's best to get your information about home education "from the horse's mouth": it is amazing how many people have an opinion about the pros and cons of home education despite not actually knowing anything about it!! I'd suggest looking into the subject in some detail, by talking to home educating families, before mentioning it to friends, relatives and acquaintances.

My main thought is, what does your dc think of the idea? If your child is keen and you are willing then I am sure you can make a success of it. It is fairly unusual to remove a child this age from school without consulting the child about it.

I home school my Y8 DD and have been doing so for a few years. It seems hard at first to figure out what to teach and how, but as you gather resources it gets easier. For science and geography look at The Simple School website, for maths look at MEP/CIMT, conquermaths. There are lots of resource suggestions on the Education Otherwise various web groups and also info on meet-ups. Whereabouts do you live?
