Herefordshire and Surrounding County Independent Schools

Hi everyone,
Please can someone give me some opinions of secondary independent schools. We are considering relocating back to the county- lured by the beautiful countryside and great housing. Children are currently in a private school so Hereford Cathedral School would be one option. What is it like?

I am completely stressed at the moment as eldest child is in last year of prep school and the follow on senior option for various reasons is looking less and less appealing. As a result we only have until March to make up our minds (We have to give a term's notice). I would therefore REALLY appreciate hearing from anyone living and educating their children in the county.

Many thanks.

I've had 2 DC in Hereford Cathedral School, and, of course known others who have attended. This was sometime time ago but IMO it was/is an excellent school. DC were very happy there and achieved very well.

Whereabouts in the county? If south then Monmouth schools would also be an option,or the state grammars in Gloucester. Further north and you've got Malvern, Worcester, Shrewsbury.

I and a couple of my siblings did time at HCS; given a large number of the same teachers are still there (and youngest sis is only Y9) I wouldn't rave about it and was glad to leave for the Sixth form College which was brilliant. Dbro had a great time at St Mary's but we're catholic and by all accounts getting in is harder for non-RC than it used to be.

Malvern College comes highly recommended to me and I know a few parents with Dc there that are very pleased with it
With regards to the Monmouth schools i know people who use the boys school for their sons but strangely don't send their daughter's to the girls school.

Thanks for your responses... Yes we have looked at Monmouth Schools but have mixed feelings over sending our children down the same sex route. i.e. daughters would probably love it but I think son needs more of a mix.
Malvern and Shrewsbury schools are probably as expensive as their current school which would therefore defeat one of our objectives- to decrease the amount of fees we are currently paying. Current school is more boarding than day and as mine are day can't help feeling that our fees contribute to facilities that they simply don't use. Neither child is massively sporty or musical but solid academically and so we are coming to the conclusion that an independent day school may be a better option. Hence my interest in Hereford, any further ideas/opinions will be gratefully received!
