Doing Maths A
and FM AS.

C1 100
C2 92

D1 60something
S1 80

FP1 88

Still to do C3, C4, S2, M1.

School are saying they won't predict A* for Maths. I don't know the FM prediction atm.

I'm not a teacher but have a DS doing Maths and FM. DS did A level Maths in Y12 and now doing FM in Y13. Many students did quite well on C1 and 2 and then much worse on all the subsequent papers.
They need to get over 90 in the A2 papers in order to get A*.
C3 and C4 are significantly more difficult than C1 and C2.

To predict an A* with those D1 and S1 grades would be over optimistic and not really doing the student a favour.

Schools vary a lot in A prediction criteria and consequently a lot of universities don't make much of a distinction between A and A predictions. Does he need an A* prediction for what he is applying for? If not I would try not to worry too much (just prove the school wrong on results day). If he does then ask again nicely armed with the requirements for the course he wants to apply for, but even if that fails, try not to worry too much but make sure the 90+ UMS module results at least are mentioned in the school reference if not elsewhere on the UCAS form. He needs a 90% average in C3 and C4, and it is very easy for even brilliant mathematicians to miss this, though he should definitely aim for it and stands a good chance imo.

I should also add that many schools are being a bit cautious about this years predictions because no one quite knows how the lack of a January exam session will affect things.

I am nit a teacher nut my DS1 got 100 on C1 and 95 on C2 and was predicted an A which is what he ended up getting.

Also we found that Unis seemd to kbnow that grade predictions are subjective and there is an element of luck in getting an A"
He got offers for the 2 A*AA courses he applied for despite having AAA predictions
