Haved looked at ofsteds, results etc. Missed glenthorne open eve. Just want some honest opinions really as have had a couple of mums saying there is a rough element to cheam high - speaking from experience of local kids who live near them and attend the school. Does anyone have similar opinions?

Cheam High was always considered "rough" when I was at school but that was a 25 years ago!

One of DS's primary school friends is at Cheam High on a tennis scholarship
And is loving it. I would say that most comps have a rough element even in leafy Surrey.

Sure that from the League Tables Glenthorne does way better than Cheam High though....

It might be a good idea, OP, to see if you can get to visit both schools (it's apparent that you missed the Glenthorne one but not the Cheam one?) and make that judgement for yourself.

I'm sure the schools would allow you to do so but you will need to hurry up!

I have a daughter at Glenthorne who is loving it. The school are strict about uniform (all bags must be black, any logo must be smaller than a 50p piece and teachers carry a template to check this) Any lateness (even 5 mins results in detention) Revision classes are run before school and on a Saturday in the lead up to GCSEs. When pupils attend these they get Prom Points on their Prom passport and no one can attend the Prom without enough points. One reason why their results are so good.

Thanks for the advice all. Will be going to the Cheam high open evening next week. Glenthorne is def at the top of the list, if ds can get a place!

I take my primary school DDs to Cheam High for gymnastics. Good facilities, clean and well organised. Doesn't look rough to me. When's the open evening?
