Twickenham Academy Open Evening

Hi - just wondering if anyone visited Twickenham Academy this week for the open evening. We did and were very pleasantly surprised and pretty impressed. After attending last year and being extremely worried about this as an option for our children, this year it seemed a completely different place. Fantastic building, enthused children, engaging teachers, improved GCSE results ... I could go on. What were other people's views this year?

Hi. I'm involved in marketing the Academy and would be interested to know how you found out about the Open Evening eg newspaper ad, banner outside the school, word of mouth, etc? Thanks

Not too keen, to be honest. I think you have to look past the shiny new buildings.

Thanks for the replies. I live locally and have been and plan to go to the local school open evenings.

nennypops, having visited last year and then this, the difference was vast IMO and not just because of the building. Having attended Teddington School open evening last week also, whilst you cannot knock their results, facilities and intake (which of course will favourably affect their results). TA seemed a lot more welcoming and keen to prove themselves as an improving school which was reflected in their GCSE results this year. The teachers I met were good and the children were polite and helpful. If their pending ofsted report is good then I think this could be a possibility for us and we do potentially have other options.

Really good advice on what to look for, be impressed by at a secondary school open evening on www.how-to-choose-a-school.org. Not for profit, not linked to any educational establishment, tries to be impartial.

visited the school this morning during open morning. very interesting to see the "students" in action. would not have considered it 2 years ago, but it seems to have improved so much. The head was very nice, seemed a bit too excited about the building. was quite interested by "steps" learning. have heard any positive comments from other parents too. still unsure if it would be right choice for DC
