Making friends

Is it really that important that your child learns to make friends at school ?

Do children who make friends easily have an advantage over those who dont....?

The most important question is it the responsibility of those children to learn to help those who can not join in?

I don't believe it is necessary or important that a child makes friends at school as long as they are happy in their own skin and own space. My DD (now 17) has not had any special (best) friends through school but because of that has been less pulled into friendship groups and hassles than some of her peers.

She does now have a fairly reasonable friendship group outside of school made up from a wide range of people she has met through other activities and who are more in her mind set ..

We go to school with those in our local catchment area - there's nothing to say we need to be friends with them!
