"Foundation" German

My step daughter is in year 10 and has been doing GSCE German for a year, however, her teacher has been off ill with cancer and she's only had substitute teachers so she learnt very little in that year.

The school have now told the class that they will only now be entered for the foundation exam and I'm just wondering how this works?

Is it still a GCSE? How does it differ from a "normal" German GCSE and what are the maximum grades available.

Thanks.

Sorry, she's in year 11 now not year 10.

For a foundation GCSE the range of grades available is c to g.
