Is it normal to take a water bottle, or is it uncool?

Smartphone or cheap nokia?

Take the PE kit in on the first day, or not?

All the kids at my DS's school take in water bottles, and the school encourages it. They drink whilst they work.

My DS is year 8 and he has a iPhone 4s. In year 7 he had an old Blackberry. No issues here.

If you dont already have a timetable then dont take in the PE kit as it is unlikely they will do any on their first day. However, check the timetable if you have one as PE may be scheduled for today.

Good luck

Mine don't take water bottles. No idea if this is connected to being cool or not (mine are both nerds).

Mine have basic bricks - and are not alone in that. But most pupils now have smartphones (only a couple of years ago it was the minority).

Probably not PE on first day, unless you've been sent a timetable and you know it's happening.

We have been told to bring PE kit on the first day.

DD has decided she will take a bottle of water rather than a water bottle if that makes sense.

She will be taking her blackberry but has had strict instructions not to take it out of her blazer pocket.

My DC take water bottles (they can refill them at school).

We have had several lost/stolen phones so I would say old/cheap mobile.

Detentions are handed out on day 1 for no PE kit, even though they don't have a timetable till they get there

Both take bottles of squash as school drinks are expensive, DD1 refills hers if hot, DD2 refuses to drink water, ever.

Cheap phone for first year until they prove they won't lose them/leave them in in class. DD1 now has an Ace, DD2 actually has a nice Nokia 300 so not that cheap (just how Christmas money panned out)

Both mine take iPods, but that's because of an hours bus journey. Far better to chat and make friends to start with.
(DD1 doesn't do friends except very selectively)

Our school never needs PE kit first day back.

At dd's school - water bottle yes, phone cheap Nokia, PE kit is required on first day
