Payment for Home Ec?

My dd1 is in s2 (=y8) and all of a sudden this evening has said school is asking for £15 for home Ec supplies for the year by tomorrow.

Last year we had a letter and we paid, no bother. It's the lack of letter that bothers me.

Either she's lost it, or she's bluffing for another reason.

I'm a trained secondary teacher (though working in adult ed now) and I know no school will ask for cash with no letter.

Apparently I'm not a 'trusting' mum as I won't pay without a letter. I'm sure she's up to something! Nothing much, I reckon the lost letter she won't admit is it. No idea why, I've never made an issue about school forms.

I'd agree, there's probably a letter somewhere. Ours post letters home on the website, so look there, or email school and ask if you need to send in the money. If they want it, they'll get back to you!

Sure you pay up; you also email or phone the school to confirm. And fry her butt if they don't confirm.

At dds school all payments due can be paid on-line and would be listed with the amount and date due when parents log onto the school website. This method is preferable to taking in cheques or cash that can be lost so I think it is reasonable to check.

Send her with a cheque for £15 payable to the school. Not much she can do with it if the school haven't asked for it. I always send chqs into school as that way the money is traceable in the event of query over payment.

I'm a TA in Scottish High School and many of the Home Ec kids are currently being chased up daily for their £15! I did hear one of the teachers say that the school would have written to them over the summer holidays, but none of the kids were aware of the letter.

As others have said, the letter would surely be on the school's website.

If not, either email the Home Ec teacher and ask for confirmation, or send her in with a cheque made payable to the school.

Letters never on DS website. And hard to get hold of the teachers.
Other good tactic is to ring parents of other teens in same yr & ask them if they have had that request.
