Help with the cost of uniform? Uniform grants West Sussex

Just adding up the cost of uniform for my sons new secondary school. Ouch. Over £120 and that does no include the added cost of shoes, trainers, shirts, trousers, coat, bags.....the list goes on!

Is there any help available? I'm in West Sussex and am a lone parent on a low income ( working tax credits)

I have read that:

'From April 2006, WSCC have not made payments of clothing grants (also known as uniform grants), and will continue not to do so.'

Does this mean there is no help out there whatsoever ?

Thank you in advance !

Thank you :)

It's a bit of a shock really! my son is starting a brand new school in September and I have only received the uniform list and pricing recently. So as its a new school there are no hand me downs at all!

Have you tried contacting the school directly? If it's a brand new school, so no 2nd hand shop, surely they would be sympathetic to you and others in your situation and they might have some suggestions as to helping you out?
