School shoes for new year 7.

My daughter is due to start secondary school in September - big step and lots of growing up I expect! Confused

I have been recently thinking about school uniform and was a little stumped with the shoes. She is currently wearing Mary Jayne style clarks shoes which have been fine but we both agree are a bit young looking.

What type of shoes do girls wear at secondary school? She will have to do a lot of walking. Any help greatly appreciated Smile

My daughters (and most other girls at their secondary) wear kickers. I did phone up and check they were ok with the school first though as they look like boots to me, but apparently they are shoes and therefore acceptable.

Depends on the school! And the amount of walking. Would her current shoes do for the first few weeks in September. Then she could see what styles are popular, and get new shoes then?

My y9 daughter (going into Y10) wears Clarks - ballet style pumps but with a strap across (the type without a strap are banned)

You cant go wrong with Kickers. They are ugly but apparently really cool and all the boys and girls wear them, and most importantly, they lasted the whole year. 50 quid well spent!

Dd is just finishing yr 7 & has had the Clarks lace up brogue style shoes.

Kickers black ankle boots are the footwear of choice round here!

If she's doing a lot of walking, make sure she's got a comfortable, well-supported pair, ie not ballet pumps!

Black vans slip ons will last and get wear out of school. Also not that expensive when you consider the clarks clumpy monstrosities that are £££££

Otherwise new look brogues will probably last a term and not break the bank. Very in at the moment too. Could pick up a better quality pair at M&S.

Would try and steer away from 'school shoes' and try and get something cool that follows the regulations or the whinging will begin that everyone else wears cool black trainers 3 weeks in

Kickers. Those black van things look wimpy to me, maybe okay until half term. I need something that can handle snow!

Dd has ballerina style slip ones from Brantano. Apparently the ones with straps are not trendy at all. She has to have leather shoes so no Vans.

DDs school doesn't allow boots - they all seem to wear the brogue-type shoes and then ballet pump type ones in the summer term (no idea why those are allowed and boots not!)

We have been sent a sheet with pictures of shoes on. All ballet flats(strap or not) trainer style, and boots are banned. Mary Janes, lace ups and closed style shies are fine.

According to the uniform list shoes must be supportive and weatherproof.

I like the look of the brogues, they look quite trendy yet sensible at the same time. I think she would quite like some ballet style pumps but I'm not convinced with all the walking that they will be particularly supportive for her feet?

I'm so surprised kickers are still in fashion - they were the shoe of choice when I was at school!

Do make sure you check school policy. I don't know of a single school in our vicinity where either Kickers or Vans are allowed. At our school most girls have brogues, Clarks' Mary Janes or the slightly sturdier ballet pumps with straps. Only leather allowed. The boys all have lace ups (with the occasional fashionable 'winklepicker' type - yuk!)

My eldest dd wears brogues in autumn winter then supportive (ish) ballet style in spring summer. Rocket dog and Blowfish are good strong ballet types.

At dd's school any open-front shoes so Mary-Janes and ballet style are completely banned for Years 7 and 8. School says it's for safety reasons with science. All wear variations on brogues.

DD also going into yr 7, & I've been peering at teenage girl feet as they pass on the way to the bus Grin - here they all appear to wear clarks style lace ups.

They are pretty strict about shoes at DD's school and most girls either wear ballet style shoes or brogues.

Brogues seem pretty popular atm. DSD will be going into year 6 in sept and apparently they're the 'in' shoe.
