modular to linear - changes in current GCSE's

Hmmmm.
DD is in year 10 and she's been doing linear for a year and will sit all her GCSE's in summer 2013 - no modules.
Most of Gove's pronouncements are bilge or repetition.

this is to be honest old news; all schools are now teaching year 10 the linear specs as that is all that is left to them. I would have presumed that all year 10 students are aware of the changes and therefore their parents.

To be pedantic, the current GCSEs are not 'becoming' linear, they are still the same modular courses, but the ability to sit the modules during the middle has been removed.

After all the errors of judgement Mr Gove has made, if he were a school, he'd be on special measures!

If it truly gets rid of controlled assessments and real GCSE papers scattered randomly across Y10-Y11then it will be the only good thing Twat Gove has done.

DD1 was had real science GCSEs mixed in with important setting tests. English CAs in mid winter when she felt like death, Drama exams that move three times a science CA that is just drifting in the ether to be done sometime.

It's a total mess. Proper exams, HW, concerts, music exams and trying having a life and a childhood over two years is a shit system.

It's just so much better just saying 'right life stops for revision for three months at the end of Y11'. It's simple choir masters, guides leaders, older and younger friends etc etc understand that, it's simple! The DCs understand, the teachers understand and the parents understand.

Except of course if something goes wrong in your life then, and you have to wait a whole year to get any of your GCSEs....

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with people doing endless resits, but only having exams in the summer is really not a good idea.

When I did O levels, it was possible to sit them in Nov or June. Most did the summer, but there was still the possibility of taking a couple earlier to get them out the way or doing them in Nov if you missed the summer exams.

Agreed, creamteas - it was the same for me and I can't see what the gain is in removing the option. My only guess is that it's seen as a good excuse to keep them at school longer? Oh, sorry - Gove's raised the leaving age anyway (another stoopid idea that, mutters into beer)....

Startail, I do agree to some extent but I also think the no resist is wrong - the message is stumble, get ill, misjudge stuff because after all, you are a child, have a family problem - you will be punished. Same at A level - he has done it for political reasons.
