This is a major bone of contention just now in parts of Scotland since some local authorities are only allowing kids to study 6 examinable subjects, instead of 8 offered under the old system. In other parts of the country, however, kids can study 7 or even 8. The Minister for Learning, Alasdair Allan, says there should be 'latitude in every school' to allow for up to 8 but this isn't happening and the government just say it's in the hands of the local authorities and refuse to intervene.

bumping - this doesn't just affect the current S3s. Everyone with a child who will be in S4 and under in August is affected by this.

True, and no one but current S2, S3 and S4 parents have been told about it. Information is scant and parents are left confused. We need to DO something - I think a petition is the best way....
