2013 highers

Does anyone else have DC doing highers?

DD was bitterly disappointed with the maths exam today - the consensus is that it was a horrible paper. Will they adjust the pass mark accordingly [hopeful face emoticon].

The English didn't seem to go well either. Sad

Hi

My son is only doing Standard Grades, but the credit maths paper was apparently an absolute nightmare for all who took it! As far as I know they do adjust the marks accordingly. If you google 'sqa grade boundaries - higher' you'll find out what was required to make the grade in previous years and your DD might be a bit encouraged.

Thankyou very much for the tip. I'll do that.

To be fair, DD has not done much studying - some - but not as much as she should have, nevertheless she was hoping for a B.

I'm going to be a wreck on 6th August! Good luck to your DS.

Highers here as well, but not maths! DD thought English was OK, it is normally her worst subject but to get a topic of shopping fir close reading was right up her street. She was dreading a political topic! She did Biology last week which she found tough, and the week before did music which she came out of with a grin on her face! Roll on friday when her last is German and she can celebrate!

Hope everyone gets the grades they want

The kids here seemed to think the close reading was okay too. DD was really struggling to find two suitable critical essay questions. She wrote one where she seemed to be using a very broad definition of the subject to fit her text.

I didn't know that german is on Friday; French is next weds and Spanish isn't till the following week. I'm so glad she didn't take that - it'll be a relief to have them finished (regardless of how they've gone)!

This is my first DC to sit highers. I can't imagine what it must be like to have a large family and going through this several time.

This is my second consecutive year of Highers, and the DC at our school and the maths teachers thought the paper was fine! There was a problem last year - it was very difficult - so, allegedly, the setters were told to make it easier this year.

Also said English was OK. the close reading looked fine, but I guess the other paper depended on your novel/play/poems.

Can't wait till they're all done. Anyone know what date the results are posted?

chocoluvva · 22/05/2013 22:32

August 6th for results.

My son thought the maths was OK, better than last year with the log question.
He didn't like the last part of the tech paper the day before though.
