Boarding school choices

What is the protocol with UK boarding schools when a place(for 6th form in Sept 2014) has been offered at one school (ie. now) when the entrance tests for other choices don't even take place until November (this year)?

You have to accept or decline the first place in the time requested.

You may lose a deposit if you secure the second place and decide you prefer it.

Each school decides its own timetable for offers, and there isn't really anything you can do to change that.
