11+ south London schools

[Nampah]

Looking for senior schools for my dd, So far we have visited emanuel , whs and clapham & clapham waiting to see Phs and FHs sloane sq. My Dd's is bright but also can be lazy! Does anyone have an experience of theses schools and getting through their entrance exams?

What schools have you been looking at?

Lets of good State options too: Dunraven, Graveney, Chestnut Grove. Are you within catchment of those?

That's a big spread both academically and geographically

Start by looking at which schools are nearest to you (state and private if you can afford it) and looking at the journey your dd would have to do - every day for the next 7 years.

We have discounted one fantastic extremely academic school which dd's current head is sure she'd get into because the journey would imo wipe out a lot of the advantages of being at the school in the first place.

Then ask your current head's advice as to which of the remaining schools your dd is likely to get into. Wimbledon and Putney High are both more academically challenging than Streatham & Clapham and Emanuel so depending on your dd's ability you may need to have a fall-back option

Where are her friends going to as well as that will impact on your dd's choice

I'm only half looking at the moment, because dd is only in Y4....but still, looking. Because I'm not sure if she'll go private or state, and will probably do the 11+ in case.

I'm thinking Emanuel, out of the ones you've mentioned. My niece is going to Putney, but she is more conservative, and far more motivated academically than dd1 - who tends towards the Arts, though she's quite keen on maths. I also like schools that have a mix of students.

I also totally agree on the distance thing. Someone who knows dd well suggested Ealing and Nottinghill High for her, as a good fit - but it's over an hour to get there on public transport, which is too far I think.

We're looking at our local state schools too.

I'm not sure if we are in the catchment area for any, graveney is a school that I have considered but we have to be scoring very high, i think with the top 30 children, to stand a chance. I'm more closer to central London schools

All the schools that I have mentioned have a journey time of maximum 45 mins. I a, looking a both state and private.

All schools i mentioned, plus more, were recommend by our head I have just whittled them down to we both liked. Streatham and clapham high is a trick place to get too from where we are.

Some of dd's friends are going to day schools, some to boarding, if she did have her way, dd would also board

I would save your money rather than go to Streatham and Clapham.

WHS and PHS are both excellent schools, though.
