Hi,
any help would be appreciated on this one. DS, at a superselective, has a PE exam. WTF!! I have absolutely no idea how to guide him to revise, if indeed he needs to do any (let's hope not!) - will it be actual physical education or might it be more about healthy lifestyles/keeping fit etc....?
Thanks

Thanks for your input Tiggytape! No I didn't really think it would be physical but thought it might include stuff about physiology...hmmmm. Think you could be onto something with the tactics, rules etc.....

Perhaps the answer is that you are not supposed to!

In Y7 DC are usually expected to know what they are to be examined on, and to work out what they need to revise on their own :)

Yes, I entirely know where you are coming from on this creamteas.

I just find it quite amusing that they've managed to elevate PE into a serious subject worthy of an exam - it wasn't like that when I was at secondary school! Mind you, I guess sports science is a key issue.

Hi No idea of what he should revise but I was interested to learn recently that for GCSE PE 60% of marks are for physical performance.

When we had parents' evening ds was given a level and end of year target for PE, they were being timed & assessed in the gym etc. So it could be possible it is a physical assessment. I am not sure how you could revise if you hadn't had any written lessons?

gazzalw · 17/03/2013 20:08

I know I will be shouted down on this but since when has PE assumed such a central place in the curriculum?

Thanks for your help 23balloons! I think you are right really!

I know PE GCSE is one of those subjects that is very difficult to do very well in. DNephew managed to get an A* in it (it was his only one) and we were a bit Hmm until we read that it's actually a truly difficult subject to excel in.

Somehow doubt DS will excel in it though. He's managed to get Ds two terms in a row.... Hmm.

Our Y7 recently had a test - it was physical though - one of those.. run end to end of the hall keeping time with a buzzer that gets ever quicker...

dingit · 17/03/2013 20:24

It's called a Cooper run. My dd has to sit a written paper too. Even had buy a revision guide! Shock

gazzalw · 17/03/2013 20:29

Where on earth do you find a revision guide for PE????? It is a BBC one???

We bought it from the school / academy! My dd is very into it, wants to do sports science, be physio or PE teacher! It's actually quite interesting, stuff about muscles, nutrition etc. I'm learning all over again with my Dds education!

nagynolonger · 18/03/2013 12:04

Surely a year 7 DC must have some idea what it's about he must have been in the lessons.

It might be one of those 'bleep' tests where they run up and down the sports hall.

gazzalw · 18/03/2013 17:44

Well they've done no theory whatsoever hence my initial question.

Don't think my dd did theory in yr 7. In yr9 now, and starting some ' 'modules'
