Good Keystage 3 - Year 7 - Workbook

Ds1 has had a bit of a wobble. He doesn't think he's doing very well at maths, is struggling, finds it a bit boring and wants help. He's asked me if I'll help him a bit over half term, but while I'm pretty maths literate it's been a long while and I could really do with a workbook or exercise book to check current methods/what the curriculum requires. Only problem is, a quick look on amazon and they all look really dry.

Can anyone recommend a good comprehensive Year 7 maths book that will cover all the topics he needs to, get me up to speed and help us both to feel a bit more confident at this? (I will also have a chat to the teacher on parents evening about it, but I think I might be able to a little more intelligently if I have an idea where ds1 is getting stuck and if he's just in panic mode and actually perfectly capable).

You could try bbc bitesize on the computer. Not dry at all and broken into nice short chunks.

Also check if school have a subscription to MyMaths and Sam Learning, both really good resources.

Thanks njaw, I will do :) We've got parents evening a couple of weeks after half term so will go fully prepared I don't like the thought of him losing heart so early.

OH... also meant to say, he's just revised for tomorrow's maths test by going through some of the exercises on BBC Bitesize and he kept telling me in a surprised voice "Mum, I got 6 out of 7 on that one" (AND he could tell me where he'd gone wrong with the one he got wrong), so hopefully he's had a bit of a confidence boost and won't freeze in class again tomorrow :)

DD1 swears by CGP books for maths, got her put up to set 2 when she'd lost her full books.

She does a lot science on bite size (school had them buy CGP revision book for that too).

We have music and Shakespeare CGP books too, dD1 is dyslexic, I think she has trouble reading her notes, even when she hasn't lost them

I was only today advised that Lonsdale Key Stage 3 Essentials are good - they cover National curriculum etc. I've just started home schooling 13yr old due to ASD related noise intolerance. We used the CGP maths book today and found that it only asks questions - there was no explanations, examples etc. Hence having a Lonsdale one en route
