GCSE Options

Yes, it's that time. The GCSE options booklet has arrived. The core subjects are the usual but as well as having to do RP they also have to do a D &T subject which means the option of doing History may have to go. I feel History is a good thing to have or am I living in the dark ages with this thought?
Does anyone know can you dispute the school about their choices. For example could I say, we don't want to do a D&T subject even though they are saying we must. Can we argue 'no' , we want to do another subject, i.e. History? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Most schools have to set options blocks, and you choose one from each block. So yes, your dc will commonly end up doing a subject they wouldn't have chosen, because clearly it's never going to be possible to timetable 80 different subject combinations so nobody has any of their subjects clashing with another subject.

You could presumably 'refuse' to do a subject, but you won't then be able to elbow another subject into it during those 'free' slots in the timetable, as obviously the history teacher will be teaching elsewhere at the point your dc would be expected to be doing D&T.

Ds is going though this now too. At his school there are the five core, plus RE. Then he has to have one humanity (he has chosen history) and one language (he has chosen German)
Then there are two free options, he has chosen geography and drama.

Will feel relieved when the form is finally submitted...
