GCSE choices for non-academic DS

DS is having to make GCSE choices. He is not interested in staying on for A levels. He is wanting to apply to join the Army as a Junior after GCSE. At the moment preferred choices are:

Maths
English
Double science
French/German (hoping for German)
Geography
ICT BTEC
Sport BTEC

The problem is that he is actually very capable just not interested in school - he would rather be polishing his boots!

Does anyone see any problems in these choices please?

I don't see any problem with those at all and, if he passes all at grade A* - C, he will have the Ebac! I don't however know what you need to be able to join the Army at 16+.

Looks fine to me.

As a generalisation, boys are not good at coursework. Will a "capable, just not interested" boy keep on top of the workload for two BTECs?

Thanks all - entry requirements at 16 are to do with attitude and aptitude. GCSEs will decide which trades will be open to him.

Good point senua about course work. If this is the final choice then there will be firm words and I fully expect to be on his case for the next two years. On the other hand I am hoping that by choosing subjects which interest him that he will be easier to motivate.

I shall start precticing my drill sergeant's voice!
