Good ks3 science syllabus book?

We have.the Letts Ks3 workbook but it's just that, a workbook with questions ie. Doesn't explain things. Can anyone recommend a book that follows the year 7 syllabus and explains things clearly? Not.CGP btw, she doesn't like them!

The problem is that there isn't really a 'year 7' syllabus as such. Many years ago, the QCA produced a unit by unit and year by year guide to teaching Science at KS3, but nothing was ever produced for the revised KS3 syllabus.

There are many publishers that produce schemes of work and unit by unit resources for years 7, 8 and 9, but they are all different. If you could let me know the names and codes for any of the units studied this year, I can maybe identify which scheme/system you are using.

My DD in Y7 uses this book at school.
She asked for a home copy of her own - mainly so she can use the CD I think.

DD swears by CGP, so if that's out is there anything on BBC bitesize?

They may still have KS3 SATs stuff although they have been abolished.

I don't think that they are inspiring, but the Cambridge Core Science books are easy to follow. They are laid out clearly in double page spreads. Quite visual (lots of pictures) and one or two questions after each bit to check understanding. Key words are highlighted in bold which helps. Diagrams are simple and clear.

At the end of each spread there is a "what you need to remember" box to complete. There are no answers to questions in the back - you just need to look at the text/diagrams immediately before the question. The completed "What you need to remember" passages are in the back.

They are the easiest books for students to work from with minimal support that I have found - they are not revision guides, but cover all the content of the old QCA scheme.

Whsmiths own publications are simple, easy n have q's at the end
